A visit to Sts. John and Paul

During the Pilgrimage, which lasted from 28th September until 20th October we were able to have our Generalate in Rome, Sts. John and Paul, as our base.

The group joined the Sts. John and Paul Community for the Feast of St. Paul of the Cross. The Feast Day lunch was held at 1.30 p.m. and the Eucharist, celebrated by the Superior General, Father Ottaviano D’Egidio, C.P., was celebrated at 5.30 p.m.

A visit to the Vatican

The Pilgrimage included early morning Mass in the Grotto of St. Peter’s Basilica and the General Papal Audience on Wednesday 17th October 2007.

The Pope welcomed “The Passionist Religious on pilgrimage from Australia and Papua New Guinea”.

A visit to Gran Sasso

The Pilgrimage also was fortunate to visit the very popular Basilica and Shrine to St. Gabriel of our Lady of Sorrows at Gran Sasso.

The Basilica holds 12,000 people.

A visit to Lucca

 

During the Pilgrimage we visited the Passionist Nuns at Lucca in Italy. Father Kevin Tuitu’u was Principal Celebrant of our Mass at the Shrine of St. Gemma Galgani, and afterwards we enjoyed the hospitality of the Nuns in their new pilgrim centre.

A visit to Ovada

The pilgrimage included a visit to the town of Ovada, the town where St. Paul of the Cross was born. The Passionist Superior General, Fr. Ottaviano D’Egidio, C.P., was Principal Celebrant of the Mass in the room where St. Paul was born in 1694.
