On disembarking the five Passionists were taken to St. Mary’s Cathedral in Sydney to be guests of the Cardinal Patrick Francis Moran, Archbishop of Sydney (1830-1911). The Cardinal had been quick to make a decision about the Passionists. The newly arrived religious community would be given the parish of “St. Bridget’s of the Suburbs”. The parish had been established the previous year.
Perhaps the record voyage of the Armuz had thrown out the calculations. The residence there would not be ready for a couple of weeks. So, they were all invited to stay at St. Mary’s Cathedral.
