“If the stormy waves strike the rock, it matters little; have you ever seen the rocks of the sea when they were beaten against the tempest? A furious wave comes along, dashes against the rock and it … it remains firm. And still another furious wave arrives and dashes against it in all directions and it … it remains firm. Look at it after the storm: you will see that the mad waves polished it and carried off the mossy growth, which had become attached to it during the calm.”
