Holy Spirit Province Feast Day!

9 June, 2019

9 June 2019, Pentecost Sunday, is the patronal feast of the Passionist Holy Spirit Province – Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Vietnam.

O God, who by the mystery of today’s feast sanctify your whole Church in every people and nation, pour out, we pray, the gifts of the Holy Spirit across the face of the earth and, with the divine grace that was at work when the Gospel was first proclaimed, fill now once more the hearts of believers. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Holy Spirit annoys us. The Holy Spirit upsets us because it moves us, it makes us walk, it pushes us forward. The Holy Spirit bothers us because the Holy Spirit urges us to walk forward. Often we want the Holy Spirit to go to sleep, we want to domesticate the Holy Spirit. This will never work, because the Holy Spirit is God. The Holy Spirit is that wind that comes and goes without us knowing from where. The Holy Spirit is the force and power of God that gives us the strength to move on. To try to domesticate the Holy Spirit is being foolish and slow to heart. To try to calm down the Holy Spirit is wrong. Do not resist the Holy Spirit. This is the grace that I wish for each of us. May the Holy Spirit continue to annoy us. May the Holy Spirit continue to upset us.
